The 2024 Social Justice Conference – Israel’s Recovery

At this year’s Centers for Social Justice Conference on September 19, the chances and challenges related to the reconstruction of Israel and its civil society after October 7 took center stage.

This includes rebuilding the destroyed settlements, restoring trust between citizens and the state, strengthening public services that have been weakened for years, building trust between the different groups in society and overcoming the individual and collective traumas of a society characterized by grief and loss.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog gave an opening address by video; we were honored that he had some words of praise for the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. Several other important political actors also took part in the conference, for instance the former prime minister and MK Yair Lapid, who gave a keynote speech, and MK Naama Lazimi, who was part of a panel regarding the Jewish-Arab Partnership.

Concluding the event, the Ilan Gilon Social Justice Prize was awarded to the Israel Trauma Coalition for their important work in trauma rehabilitation and management.
