For almost six decades, the German Trade Union for Education and Science (GEW) and its Israeli partner trade union, Histadrut HaMorim, have been jointly organising seminars on dealing with the Shoah in the classroom and in youth work.
The approach for dealing with the Holocaust is different in Germany and Israel. This makes it all the more important - today more than ever - to understand and accept each other. At the centre of the meeting is the pedagogical examination of the Holocaust and the associated education for tolerance as well as current educational policy and trade union issues.
The seminar is organised jointly with the Israeli education trade union Histadrut HaMorim and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, and will next take place in Israel at the beginning of August 2025.
The German participants met in Berlin on 15-16 November 2024 for the preparatory seminar. Micky Drill from the FES-Israel was also invited. He spoke about the situation in Israel after 7 October, the trade union landscape in Israel and the contribution of the labour movement to bilateral relations.
