Kol Mekomi – Local Voice: Training Course for Newly Elected Local Politicians From the Progressive Camp

On February 27, 2024, elections were held in 259 Israeli cities and districts to elect municipal representatives as well as mayors and heads of regional councils for the next five years.

Organized by our partners, the Tzedek Centers, over the past two years, candidates from the Social Democratic political camp who wanted to enter local politics were trained. 102 of the course participants, over 80 percent of the course alumni, actually managed to be elected as city or regional council delegates or deputy mayors. And no less important – 50 percent of “our” civic representatives are women – all committed to the values of social justice, equality and democracy.

25 of the new politicians are now taking part in a program that will accompany them in their new role and prepare them for the many challenges ahead. Eight full-day meetings are held to work on local political issues. This program is also a successful cooperation between the Tzedek Centers and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung. Micky Drill from the FES Israel visited the group in Beit Berl on June 6 and gained a great impression of the committed politicians on site.
