A Home of Your Own: Gender Inequality in Housing

The concept of housing affordability refers to the ability of households and individuals to have a quality, stable roof over their head at a price that is reasonable for their income.

In recent years, the ability of many people in Israel to purchase housing has shrunk due to the continued trend of rising property prices as wages have not risen accordingly. Often overlooked is the fact that the housing crisis has different consequences for women and men due to economic inequalities and inequalities in the division of care work among family members. Women's average income, which is lower than men's, makes housing acquisition even less accessible for women.

The housing crisis affects women from different groups and with different characteristics in different ways. This study examines the situation of women from different groups in terms of their ability to secure a roof over their heads and lists a number of policy recommendations aimed at ensuring access to housing and the right to housing for all, including for women from different population groups.
