The Launch of the 12th Class of the Program for Social and Environmental Economics

The 12th cohort of the Program for Social and Environmental Economics (formerly the Program for Social Economists) has officially launched.

From the 15th to the 17th of October, around 50 students of economics and PPE from three leading universities (Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev) gathered at the Abraham Hostel in Tel Aviv. They were introduced into the program, attended a series of fascinating lectures and, above all got to know the program's facilitators and one another. To help them get to know each other, the students played a custom‑designed “Jeopardy!” game featuring economics questions and fun challenges. Moreover, participants will have the opportunity to publish articles on the program’s website, sharing their insights and reflection with a wider audience.

The purpose of the program is to advance the participant's economic leadership skills for the public service. Over the full academic year, the participants will complete 30 meetings and seminars, where they explore economics from a critical and progressive perspective. The highlight of the program is a hands-on training in government ministries, municipalities, regional councils and other public bodies - designed to develop the next generation of economic leadership for public service.

To date, many of the about 500 graduates of the program hold positions in the public sector, where they contribute to improve the quality of life for Israeli citizens, to promote inclusive growth, to advance environmental protection and to reduce inequality in Israel.
